Dirk graduated from Shawnee Mission South and played football at Kansas State University. He was a big part of the K-State football resurgence under Head Coach Bill Snyder. Ochs graduated from Kansas State University in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and was a four-year letter winner. He ranks among the all-time leaders at KSU in career sacks and tackles, was captain his senior year in 1995.
At the end of his senior year at K-State, the Hitachi Corporation presented him an award for excellence in citizenship, scholarship, character, and athletics. Upon receipt of that award, Dirk donated the proceeds of it to his high school alma mater. Since that time, Shawnee Mission South has recognized a female and a male athlete in his honor.
Recipients of the Ochs Award have their photo displayed for the next 4 years in the Ochs Award case located in the Shawnee Mission South Hall of Fame hallway. Congratulations for this distinct honor. It is well earned.
