Sports and activities in Shawnee Mission and at SM South begin August 17! Please read the District statement below. Parents and student/athletes, let’s do our best to fully commit to practicing all mitigation activities, including social distancing, wearing of masks, washing of hands, and use of hand sanitizer. Your coaches and sponsors will have additional information for you as August 17 approaches.
From the Shawnee Mission School District:
“High schools in the Shawnee Mission School District have agreed to temporarily suspend fall sports conditioning and training activities. The suspension, which includes all KSHSAA-sponsored fall activities (including performing arts), will begin on Wednesday, August 5, 2020, and continue until the scheduled KSHSAA fall start date of August 17, 2020. This action is designed to allow current mitigation practices, including wearing face masks, social distancing and hand washing, to continue to flatten the pandemic curve, so that the fall season can begin positively. During the suspension, all student/athletes and performing arts students will be expected to continue mitigation practices, including avoiding social gatherings, so that hopefully schools can begin the fall activities season, following Johnson County Department of Health and Environment guidelines.”
